Red Fort (Lal Quila)

Red Fort is a marvelous monument which was built during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. This fort was built as a replacement capital palace, when Emperor Shah Jahan decided to shift from Agra to Delhi. Delhi became the capital city with Red Fort as the capital fort.
This beautiful red monument was completed in the year 1648. The Lal Quila was the home for the royal family. It was called as the “Qila- i- Mubarak”.

Lotus Temple

Since its inauguration to public worship in December 1986, the Bahá’í House of Worship in Delhi has, as of late 2002, attracted more than 50 million visitors, making it one of the most visited buildings in the world.Its numbers of visitors has surpassed year after year. On Hindu holy days, it has drawn as many as 150,000 people; it welcomes four million visitors each year (about 13,000 every day or 9 every minute).It is shaped like a lotus. It is an eye-catching edifice worth exploring. Built by the Baha’i community, it offers the visitor a serenity that pervades the temple and its artistic design.

India Gate

A memorial inscribed with the names of the valiant Indian soldiers who laid down their lives in World War I. The green, velvety lawns at India Gate, particularly, are a popular evening and holiday rendezvous for young and old alike. A must visit place in New Delhi.

Rajghat

Raj Ghat, the cremation site of Mahatma Gandhi is one of the most visited sites in Delhi. It consists of a simple square black-marble platform that stands on the spot where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated. It has become an essential point of call for all visiting dignitaries. Two museums dedicated to Gandhi are situated nearby.

National Rail Museum

This unique museum has a fascinating and exotic collection of over 100 real size exhibits of Indian Railways. Static and working models, signaling equipments, antique furnitures, historical photographs and related literature etc. are displayed in the museum. The line-up of old coaches includes the handsome Prince of Wales Saloon, built in 1875. A ride in joy train and mono rail (PSMT) is the most exciting experience besides boating. Do not miss the handsome Fire Engine on your way out.

Kutub Minar

About 15 km south of Delhi, in Mehrauli, this 238 feet and 1 inch high Minar has been referred to as “one of the wonders of world”. This soaring tower of victory was built immediately after the defeat of the last Hindu Kingdom in Delhi. Qutb-ud-din Aibak laid its foundation in 1200 A.D. Iltutmish added three more storeys. After damaged by lightning in 1368 A.D. Firuz Shah Tughlaq rebuilt the fourth story, added the fifth and a harp shaped cupola. A doorway in each storey opens to its own balcony. As of now, upper storeys are closed for visitors, yet its a treat to watch this magnificent travelmasti monument. Quwwat-ul-Islam Masjid, Iron Pillar and Alai Gateway are worth having a look.

Rashtrapati Bhawan

Modern New Delhi, or New Delhi as it is called, centers around the Rashtrapati Bhawan. It is architecturally a very impressive building standing at a height, flowing down as it were to India Gate. This stretch called the Rajpath is where the Republic Day parade is held. The imposing plan of this area conceived by Lutyens does not fade in its charm with the numerous summers or winters that go past.

Akshardham Temple

The Akshardham Temple in Delhi, is the latest tourist attractions in India. Situated on the banks of Yamuna river, the temple was inaugurated on November 7, 2005. The temple constructed under the patronage of the Bochasanvasi Aksharpurushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS), spreads over an area of 100 acres. The mega Akshardham Temple complex has well maintained lawns, adorned with water fountains and carved pavilions. The Akshardham temple is considered as one of the wonders of modern India. Apart from the magnificent temple, the temple complex has two big exhibition halls, which depicts India’s cultural heritage and Indian moral values. The complex has an Imax cinema, a canteen and meditation gardens with fountains and bronze sculptures.

Indira Gandhi Memorial

The former residence of Indira Gandhi is now a fascinating museum, displaying artefacts, photos and newspaper clippings, as well as personal belongings, including the blood-stained sari she was wearing when she was assassinated in 1984. Some of the rooms are preserved as they were, an interesting window into the understated elegance of her life.
